Entering Your Walk Details

This page contains all the information you need to reserve a walk slot on our walks programme, complete the details and then get it published on our website and Ramblers.

Logging in

• You will have to be logged in to the EKWG website in order to allocate an empty walk slot and complete the details on your walk. Your login details will have been sent to you as part of your welcome email when you joined EKWG, but If you've forgotten your password or you've not yet logged on to our website, click this forgotten password link where you can reset it yourself.

Choosing Your Own Walk Slot

If you'd like to take the plunge and lead a walk yourself, you can grab a 'slot' directly from our walks programme. Here's how!

• Login to the website as described above and go to the Walks Programme.
• Upcoming walks are listed from today onwards in a card view similar to the screenshot at the top of this page.
• There will be a lead button against any slots that are free as is the case for the 7th & 14th September slots above.
• If you find a slot that you'd like to reserve, click the lead button and you'll be presented with a screen as follows:

• On this screen, you can complete the details for your walk, if you know some of them, or alternatively you can just click Save and the slot will be reserved for you. You and our walks coordinator Kerry will receive an email to confirm the walk slot has been taken, so you don't need to keep Kerry up to speed with any changes you make from this point on.
• The walks listing will then be updated to show you have now allocated the walk slot e.g. the lead button will now be replaced by an edit button and the walk slot will no longer be available for anyone else to take.

• You can come back later on and add more information until your walk is ready. Both you and Kerry will be kept up to date with email notifications.

• If you don't feel like planning your walk from scratch, there is a Create my walk based on an existing one section at the bottom of the screen, that may come in handy. There are two options here that I'll now explain....

• If you remember a walk that you particularly enjoyed that was led by another member, you can choose the Previously led by: copy option. This will initially be set to Me, so you can use this facility to re-lead a walk you've led before. But to choose another member's walks, just select their name in the dropdown and their walks will be listed for you to copy from - I've selected Stuart's walks as an example here:

  

• Alternatively, you can choose the copy option With an OS Maps route I can follow. When you do this, only walks that have an OS Maps route 'linked' will be listed:
  
  Choosing this option is great, in that you'll know it's a "tried and tested" route that will hopefully give you the confidence to get started.

• If you make a selection from the Create my walk based on an existing one section, all details will be filled in for you, then you can make any of your own changes then Save it.

Walk Approval and Publishing to Ramblers

• Once you have completed all of your walk details you need to get your walk approved by Kerry before it can be published to Ramblers.
• To do this, edit your walk and then click the Request Approval button at the bottom of the walk edit view.
• If all the details have been entered and are valid, the walk will be marked as Awaiting Confirmation Of Walk Details and an email will be sent to Kerry to give the walk a check over before it's published to Ramblers.
• Note that you are not required to login to Ramblers and enter any details as our website does this automatically, however for the walk to appear on Ramblers Walks Manager as being led by you, you will need to have completed training as described on our Walk Leading page or to prove prior experience or walk leader qualifications.
