Tenterden, Rolvenden Layne, Rolvenden circular
Update (Friday 18th) I have noticed there is a temporary road closure on Sunday which closes the A28 at the north end of Tenterden. The official diversion is via St Michaels towards Biddenden and round a tour that comes into Tenterden from the south. The council have identified that this adds 15 minutes to the journey. This seems quite a long way round. I am unsure why the diversion doesn't simply go round Beacon Oak Rd (B2080) and Oaks Rd (B2067) to rejoin the A28 at the lights. However all I can suggest is if you are coming to Tenterden via the A28 from Ashford/High Halden direction you allow an extra 15 minutes. I am hoping to come via Woodchurch & the past the golf club in the hope of missing the problem. At the time of writing Google maps doesn't seem to be aware of this problem.
Meet in the Bridewell Lane car park (free on Sundays) in Tenterden. This car park is accessed from the main Tenterden High Street. Avoid the adjacent Tesco's car park as this may be chargeable over 2 hours.
Toilet opportunities at Tesco near the start.
The walk heads south briefly and then west, passing through fields and meadows with views across the valley which we then cross on our way to Rolvenden Layne. We continue to Rolvenden . The walk continues through woods and fields back to Tenterden, with again some lovely views across the valley, before arriving back in Tenterden High Street. We will cross the Kent & East Sussex Railway line, twice and may stop for a snack near Rolvenden station so hopefully will see/hear steam trains (we did on the recce). Once back in Tenterden there are a few pubs and cafe's, if anyone wishes to have a drink.
