Evening Walk: New Luckhurst Wood - an evening walk around a new forest-to-be
This walk starts at my house! If you're you're using a satnav (recommended) just put in TN26 3HF. If you're coming from Ashford direction you need to go further than the satnav says by about 100 m. Then the house will appear on your right see photo 1/7. Park on the drive.
A gentle 4 mile evening circular through quiet farmland on the edge of Smarden, in the heart of the Kent Weald. It's a chance to explore the New Luckhurst Wood site that Forestry England has recently bought, and to see this lovely corner of the Weald as it is now - open fields, old hedgerows and small copses - before it's planted out as woodland in the years to come.
Let's enjoy a relaxed stroll in a place that Luna and I enjoy on a daily basis. We loop past New Luckhurst Farm, north towards the Wagstaff farm, then back through the fields with wide views across the Weald. There's a good chance we'll spot the herd of deer that often roam this area, especially as the light softens towards dusk.
The walk starts and finishes right on my doorstep, so everyone is very welcome back afterwards for a drink to round the evening off.
