Castleton, Mam Tor and Lose Hill

We will start in Castleton at the Visitor Centre car park (charges apply but for those of us staying in Bakewell we can arrange car shares). The walk leaves Castleton in a SE direction then swings around to NW passing Speedwell cavern at the bottom of Winnats Pass before heading to the closed road that has suffered many landslips, up the side of Mam Tor. Passing Blue John Cavern and then heading up to the peak of Mam Tor itself. The route continues along the ridge with views into both the Vale of Edale and Hope Valley. At the end of the ridge we drop down back into the valley and return to Castleton.

Bring a flask of tea or coffee and a slice of Bakewell Pudding, we will enjoy a drink/snack at Back Tor overlooking the Vale of Edale.

There are a couple of cafe's in Castleton for a quick spot of lunch on our return. The slightly early start and approx 3 hours walk will allow a couple of hours in the afternoon for further touristy visits/short walks.
