Welcome!

The East Kent Walking Group is part of the Ramblers and as our name suggests we are based in East Kent and are for the 20-49 age group.

We have a programme of weekly walks, usually Sundays, throughout the year. Please look at the walks section for an up to date program.

There is more to walking than just putting one foot in front of the other !  Have you ever thought that -

  • Walking is really good for you - in our car-bound culture, many of us have forgotten how to walk more than a mile or two (we usually walk at least 5 miles, and sometimes 12 or even 15 miles);
  • Walking and talking go together - walking is a very social activity: we really enjoy getting to know each other and meeting new walkers !
  • Walking is non-polluting, low-impact, very inexpensive and humans are designed for it.
  • Walking gets you into the countryside, with others, where you can enjoy a different environment and a different pace !

Do take a look at the pictures on the site - each one is worth a thousand words !

Here are some words from the Ramblers :-

The Ramblers is Britain's walking charity, working to safeguard the footpaths, the countryside and other places we go walking, and to encourage more people to take up walking. With 125,000 members in England, Scotland and Wales, we've been working for walkers for 75 years.

We want Britain to be a place where people choose to go walking, and where it’s easy and enjoyable to do so.

We work for a walking Britain, where walking is a popular choice for its people, both for relaxation and in daily life. We want walking to be an enjoyable experience for all, whether in the countryside or in the city, on gentle paths or challenging hillsides. We believe that walking contributes to health and well-being and supports a more sustainable way of life.

We are dedicated to working both for better quality walking environments and to making walking more accessible to all.
Promoting walking

We work to promote walking for pleasure, health, leisure and transport to everyone, of all ages, backgrounds and abilities, in towns and cities as well as in the countryside.

The walking environment
New rights of access to the countryside are the results of a long-fought campaign by the Ramblers. We're also working hard to keep the footpath network clear and improve its attractions to walkers. We're working to secure new national parks, protect wild land, promote public transport and encourage environmentally friendly farming and sustainable development.
